Fishing in Ushuaia, Tolhuin and Río Grande River
Fishing
in Ushuaia is definitely a privilege as well as an unforgettable
experience. Ushuaia, as being the southernmost city in the world, offers
magical places to enjoy from sport fishing; catch and release (spinning
or fly casting).
People from everywhere realize that Tierra del Fuego is the best destiny for fishing trouts. It is not worth lying, just grab a camera and see it for yourself that the sizes and weights of these trouts are amazingly huge.
We are visited by fishing lovers from every single part of the world. They are all expecting to catch the so called “sea trouts”, which are famous for their great bearing and pink meat. These rare wild salmonids, born inland, are those who have gained access to saltwater and to their delicious variety of foods in the wide mouth of rivers, where waterways go in and out of the Atlantic and vice versa (The tide spills over the riverbed and floods an area of 35km).

Tierra del Fuego is a magnet for sport fishing
lovers due to the great quality and quantity of the trouts
living in our rivers, guaranteeing your fishing day completely. Plains
of the fuegian steppes, calmed and snaking rivers, the Fuegian Park,
The Andean lakes surrounded by forests and mountains, are some memorable
places for you to visit and enjoy from days up to 18 hours of light
due to its latitude ´s location when fishing from November to
April.
More than 300 km of rivers´coasts and 300 km more of lakes and lagoons for you to choose where to go fishing in Tierra del Fuego. A dozen of rivers, three lagoons and four lakes are to be offered as a marvelous scenario for sport fishing in Tierra del Fuego.
In the same way that in the rivers of the north of Tierra del Fuego
great pieces can be caught, you can also capture large amounts of trouts
in the lakes and rivers of Ushuaia during the same
day.
For the great majority of anglers it is more exciting to catch between 15 and 25 trouts of 3 or 5 kilos during the same day than only catching a 10 kilo trout. Both are a possibility that only Tierra del Fuego can offer, since it can satisfy the needs of the most ambitious anglers.
Fagnano Lake (the second lake in size of Argentina
and the fifth´ of South America) with its affluents; Valdéz,
Tuerto, Claro and Milna, besides from Escondido Lake.
In Río Grande, Menéndez, Ewan, Chico, Fuego and Irigoyen
rivers.
Not so long ago, those who would choose to fish in Tierra del
Fuego were spoon or spinning fishing
enthusiasts. For its practice it is recommended a short rod, different
varieties of spoons, a medium-sized reel and a 0, 30 mm of nylon with
the capacity of a long distance shot from 15 to 20 mts. The spoon is
a metallic lure with hooks that as the angler picks up his line, generates
movements underwater and it seems that there is a living fish.
Nowadays there are more and more fly-fishing or fly-casting lovers. This activity needs previous learning as well as a previous study of the surroundings where to fish in Ushuaia. It is used a flexible rod for a line 8 and dark-coloured spoons due to the fact that they are very similar to the small fry that trouts eat.
So, we put a lure in the extreme part of the line simulating an insect.
We will make it fly or lean on the water´s surface in the most natural way so we can deceive the trout and make it think that it is his food.
This type of fly-fishing, implies a great dedication and a major sport challenge for those who are fond of fishing trouts. It is a personal non-delegable practice. A great part depends on the correct election of the fly, on the observation of the surroundings (so you can detect what the trouts are eating), and on the well-technique and use of the rod.
